HYBRID FRAME

01.

02.

A frame combining 3D and 2D composition utilizing a border separation. Displaying a hand-drawn image on the inside of the container, and using a sectioned border to display the items one would find at this cozy picnic. The items in the border would be 3D, possibly allowing some of the 2D decorative elements that are inside to overlap with the container’s border.

DESIGN OBJECTIVE

Create a style frame that:

-Feels visually unified across all elements (any 2D or 3D elements)

-Demonstrates strong compositing skills

-Maintains clear mood, depth, and hierarchy

-Looks ready to move

This frame should not reveal which parts are 2D or 3D at a glance.

IDEATION

CONCEPT SKETCH

After that was established, I crafted the background using shapes, texture overlays, and collage elements like the clouds and grass textures for the hills. I also added my simple 3D assets and further textured and colored them inside Photoshop.

The last thing I needed to complete my scene was the illustrated picnic guests. The scene felt romantic to me, so I thought a little couple rendezvous would be a cute capture!

EXECUTION

I worked in a simple online 3D software called Womp for my 3D assets, most of them I found for free on the website, and edited myself. Others, I had help with their AI modeling agent available on the website. I took the simple models and textured, edited and tweaked their values and colors in Photoshop to blend them into my scene.

The first thing I did was build my border and find some colors I liked that worked with the ideas I had for the inner scene.
